Henry and Madison thought that their post-Vassar life in New York City would be lazy Sundays in their dream apartment, a set of fulfilling, life-changing careers, and Friday night beers at the neighborhood dive. But when the young couple is unable to find an affordable one-bedroom, they wind up signing for a sixth-floor walk-up…with three other roommates. There’s Drew, fresh out of school with a useless BA in Dead Media (think Betamax, ear trumpets, and carrier pigeons); Sophie, a Chicago bartender in need of a new stomping ground; and Ken, an Australian immigrant crashing on Drew’s floor while struggling through the bureaucratic nightmare of becoming a citizen. It isn’t long before everyone realizes that the reality of being young in New York is nothing like what they’d imagined, and that to survive they must learn to find comfort in each other, and make peace with their new living situation, 85 steps and all.
